The challenge
GlaxoSmithKline is a science-led global healthcare company. Their Barnard Castle drug manufacturing site was experiencing growth and continued levels of investment. Unfortunately, their current setup wasn't equipped to handle this expansion. An entire refurbishment was needed to bring it to the level the client required.
The solution
Building Projects Group was contracted to carry out the enabling and refurbishment works on its upgrade to GSK's L-block. Thanks to our experience and long-standing reputation for carrying out works within high care environments, the final product was everything the client wanted and more. Extensive work led to the creation of state-of-the-art laboratory and cleanroom facilities, with a particular focus on specialist coatings and fire protection.
The benefits
This opportunity required a strict project management plan and phasing of works to ensure minimal disruption to GSK staff during this 17-week project. Many of the areas needed temporary acoustic screens and out-of-hours working. Health and safety was a top priority throughout. The project was completed on time and within budget, to the delight of the client.
