The challenge
Stoddart House is a 24-hour, semi-secure, mental health assessment and treatment unit on the University Hospital Aintree site in North Liverpool. In an effort to constantly improve their offering, Mersey Care NHS Trust needed some remodelling work across multiple wards. But they wanted this done in a live environment, with no disruption to regular services.
The solution
This was a complex multiple ward refurbishment. Our first priority was isolating our work from the general staff and patients, and ensuring the highest level of health and safety for everyone. Due to strict security and the sensitive nature of the building, Building Projects Group developed a phased construction health and safety plan to ensure minimal disruption.
Where needed, we carried out extensive strip-out and demolition work, and replaced it with modern partitions, ceilings, HVAC modifications, electrical systems, and disabled access bathrooms.
The benefits
The client was very impressed with our approach to segregating our work space and our priority for the safety of everyone concerned. Despite having to work around others, the project was completed within 21 weeks, on time and to budget - much to the delight of the Trust and Stoddart House. The site is now a more modern facility capable of providing much-needed services to its beneficiaries.
